06 November 2023
The City’s Arts and Culture Branch held a successful three day market and art exhibition in Langa which started on Friday 3 November 2023. The Guga S’thebe Centre was filled with activities which included a traders market, art exhibition and workshops.
For the celebration, the City created a platform for a diverse range of artists, designers, crafters and made available 22
spaces for traders, while community members who will feature in the Langa 100 book, presented their personal stories.

The exhibition at the Old Post Office in Langa celebrated 100 years with storytelling and memory sharing, and will be on display until 31 December 2023.
The event also showcased arts and craft workshops in bead-making, mosaic, painting, pottery and drumming.

In addition, a talent competition was hosted at the Gugu S’thebe Amphitheatre. This was an amateur competition for community members.

‘We are proud to commemorate Langa’s centenary with the people who make up its rich tapestry. This weekend we saw much of the creativity that is so abundant in this community from older bead crafters to young dancers. I hope the celebrations will lead to a renewed interest and passion from residents for Langa,’ said Councillor Patricia van der Ross, Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health.
